Hi Crystal. Tell us a bit more about yourself and your background.
As a first-generation Mexican-American originally from Southern California, I am now settled in Omaha, NE, where I live with my husband, a former Marine and current sheriff's deputy, and our twin boys. We chose Omaha for the sense of security it offers our family. With a passion for sales that began at age 15, I have built a career that not only allows me to continuously develop my skills but also provides the stability and opportunities needed to support my family.

Why did you decide to make the switch to Goosehead?
After beginning my insurance career working for a local State Farm agent, I realized the need to shift my focus in placing the client at the center of my work, while also maintaining my ability to succeed in sales. A single phone call with my recruiter convinced me to take on the challenge of pioneering Goosehead’s brand in Omaha, NE. The cutting-edge technology, the opportunities, professional development, and service support Goosehead offered was unlike anything I had experienced in my 10+ years in sales.

What’s your favorite thing about owning a franchise?
I'd say it's the flexibility to succeed. There are countless paths to the top, and as long as the foundational principles are upheld, you have the freedom to run your franchise as you see fit. That's where each franchise can truly shine in its own unique way, as long as the common goal is met.

What does your team look like, and are you planning to continue growing your business?
I’m excited to be bringing on my first two producers as I reach this new stage. Now that I’m over two years in, I’m ready to make this important shift. The support from leadership and fellow agents has really helped me understand what this next phase will look like so I can continue to grow my team successfully.

What excites you about the future of your business?
I find it incredibly rewarding to see my efforts positively impact others—watching them achieve their goals, work toward personal development, and transform their lives and income potential. As the first person in my family to own a business, especially as a “first-generation everything” in my family, I want to make them proud and show others like me that with discipline and passion, this success is achievable.

What advice would you give to those interested in opening an insurance franchise?
My advice to anyone considering opening a franchise is simple: go for it. The formula works, and it’s not “too good to be true”. Trust your discipline and what’s right in front of you. In the end, it’s those who stand in their own way who don’t succeed.

What is the biggest trend you’re seeing in the industry right now affecting your business?
I would say the weather has been extremely unpredictable and catastrophic across the country. Here in Nebraska, we typically see about five major storms a year, but in 2024, we’ve had well over 80. It's no surprise that rates keep rising as insurance carriers try to stay profitable while managing these challenges. Even with that, Goosehead is always working to keep us on track.

Tell us about a career moment you’re most proud of.
I'd say it was something more recent, like opening a slightly larger office, hanging up my Goosehead sign, assembling desks, and walking out the door, thinking about the next chapter. Knowing that in five years, I'll be looking at an even bigger, bustling office, and realizing that even then, it's just another step forward. It hit me that joining Goosehead was the best decision for me and my family, aligning perfectly with the trajectory I've always envisioned for myself.

What do you enjoy most about being part of Goosehead?
What I enjoy most about being a part of Goosehead is the strong emphasis on continuous development and the drive to constantly improve. There’s a shared understanding of what it takes to succeed, and we all align with this common goal. We often say, “the formula is simple,” and it’s this straightforward approach that resonates with everyone. I’m also passionate about supporting fellow agency owners by creating shared platforms where we can exchange ideas, push each other to grow, and achieve success together. The camaraderie here is truly unmatched.

What resources do you use to learn more about insurance and owning a business (e.g., blogs,
podcasts, books, websites, etc.)?
I listen to Simon Sinek almost every day, and I actually run a book club with another agency owner where we focus on professional development with agency owners across the US each month. I'm also really into Stoicism! Two of my favorite books are Fanatical Prospecting by Jeb Blount and Meditations by Marcus Aurelius.
